David Gower MBE, a schoolboy hero of mine is this Friday's person of the week. Why? well, apart from being one of the finest English cricketers ever to get out for a duck, David Gower led by example as captain of the national side. He was pretty good. Two things, however, have led to his receipt of this prestigious award, however, and none of them were on the cricket field. The first occurred during the last series of 'They think it's all over' (a popular British sports quiz show with David as one of the team captains). David managed to stun the rest of the cast into a full two seconds silence after uttering the phrase: 'Pig F$*@ing'. The phrase was not important, what is important is that he managed to stop the unstoppable Lee Hurst from speaking for over two seconds. The second event occurred during his international playing days in the West Indies. David was reported to have been got out by the West Indies early in the day and instead of watching the rest of the match at the ground, decided to 'Buzz' the players by flying very low and very fast over the heads of his team mates in his plane. Cool.
